RECITAL CLASSES

GO TO CLASSES PAGE

Studio22's Recital program started in 2014 with our very first recital in April of 2015. We are proud to offer a program that is completely competition free. This is a program where dancers, beginner to elite, can find a class to have fun in while still building their overall skill level. Our classes focus on not just being able to execute a routine for a recital, but how to execute any choreography or skill. We strive to see improvement in both our competition and recreational students by teaching proper technique and challenging them with different choreography combinations in addition to their Recital Routine. The biggest difference between drop-in only students and recital students is that because our recital dancers are committed to minimum 1 class per week, we are able to see consistent improvement  by following the year-long syllabuses that our faculty has created.

We offer a one-time drop in option for dancers who want to try a class before committing, provided that the class is not already full. Once classes reach the decided capacity, the class will be closed for registration. In registering for a Recital Class, students are also committed to perform in our Recital: Saturday, April 4th, 2020.

We offer classes for ALL ages.

ACRO

Studio 22 is proud to offer a new and improved Acro Program to our students. Our program follows the official Acrobatic Arts curriculum which is based on safe and effective progressions with proven results in five divisions of AcroDance: Flexibility, Strength, Balancing, Limbering and Tumbling.  This program has been developed with input from professionals and experts in ballet, modern dance, jazz, contortion, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, sport acrobatics, yoga, acro yoga, pilates, physiotherapy, hand balancing and more. Our Acro teachers are AAC1 teachers and Studio 22 is one of the few official Acrobatic Arts Certified Studios in IL!

What is Acro?

AcroDance is the beautiful fusion of the artistic motion of dance and the athleticism of acrobatics. AcroDance is not the same as gymnastics. An AcroDancer must complete all of the skills on the hard stage without the advantage of a sprung floor, while seamlessly integrating musicality, emotional expresssion, extension, control and line. In Acro, dancers will be taught different techniques specific to the art  and the stage. AcroDance focuses on strength and flexibility. In these classes, dancers learn balance, limbering, and tumbling skills.

(Dancers must attend at least 1 Drop-in Acro class so that the dancer can be properly adjudicated and placed in the correct level PRIOR to registering for a recital class. ALL of our Acro classes are placed by skill and experience so that our students can properly/safely follow the progression of our curriculum.)

CLASS LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:

*Dancers MUST be able to execute the listed skill for each class. Instructors may also place dancers in different levels after your first class. If you have further questions on which class level to attend, please contact us or ask an instructor at our studio!*

BALLET

Ballet:

Our program teaches the techniques and foundations of Classical Ballet. Dancers will improve their strength, grace, and refine their technique while learning movement through world renowned variations taught in class. Our program strives to prepare our students to excel in the technical demands within the dance industry while learning the beauty and poise that Ballet has to offer. Ballet is one of our highest recommended classes at Studio 22 as Ballet is known as the building blocks of dance. This class lays out a strong foundation for ANY style of dance and continues to challege and grow dancers as they advance in this style.

(Dancers must attend at least 1 Drop-in Ballet class so that the dancer can be properly adjudicated and placed in the correct level PRIOR to registering for a recital class. ALL of our Ballet classes are placed by skill and experience so that our students can properly follow the progression of our curriculum.)

DISCOVER DANCE (Preschool age)

The Discover Dance Early Childhood Program is a series of movement classes designed to introduce children to the creative and expressive world of dance. Each program offers children the opportunity to develop their natural movement ability in a multi-sensory environment. Music, movement, visuals, and props will enhance your dancer's love of the art form and the unique conceptual approach to dance education will provide the opportunity for cognitive growth.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop focuses on rhythm, syncopation and stage presence.  It is an urban dance style that derived in the street-dance scene with breaking, popping, and locking. This style of dance requires high energy, attention to detail and an understanding of complex rhythms. In this class dancers will find their own organic rhythm, learn body isolations and musicality, all while having fun!

JAZZ

This upbeat and high-energy class gives dancers an outlet to advance and utilize their technique while increasing their exposure to terminology, movement, and musicality. Dancers will work on technique as well as classic jazz movement. This class is great from beginners to elite dancers to work on their energy and basic musicality.

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance is a style that allows a dancer to find their emotion and expression through the lyrics of a song. Dancers learn how to tell a story through movement and musicality. This class is a great stepping stone to the world of contemporary dance as students will work on the dynamics of their movement while continuing to master poise and grace.

POM

This energetic class is the perfect style for beginners and new dancers! Pom is a drill team style of dance that focuses on precise arm motions, creating visuals, and high energy presence. This style is new to our recital program in hopes to share a little bit of what our High Tek competitive dance teams do with our recreational students who may not want to compete, but want to experience the FUN and EXCITING genre of dance!

TAP

We are excited to offer Tap at Studio 22 with Ava Wolff! Tap classes are designed to help dancers develop rhythm, musicality, and style. As much as Ballet and Technique classes are important to a dancers training, Tap is equally essential for dancers to learn how to count a beat and grasp a basic understanding of music. Learning tap at a young age can help put dancers at an advantage as they continue in dance. They will have a more complex awareness of musicality and rhythm, which helps in ALL styles. This FUN class is a great place for young dancers to begin their training and serves as the perfect supplement to any dancers current training. You don't want to miss out!
